The treatment program is suitable for men over 18 years of age with hereditary/male pattern hair loss. All treatment should be initiated as early as possible for effect. In case of long-term/established baldness, the treatments will have limited or no effect.
How can I start treatment?
The first step is to complete an initial consultation form for a free assessment. If you are assessed as a candidate for treatment, you will receive a follow-up form in return. In this form, we will collect information that is important for correct, safe and patient-adapted treatment.
You will then be presented with payment options and terms. With consent, all information is sent to a dermatologist for final assessment and, if necessary, initiation of treatment. If the dermatologist does not recommend treatment, you will be refunded the full amount.
How is the treatment program structured?
You get access to a separate patient portal when you have been approved for the treatment program (BankID login). There you upload relevant data (for example photos) and are regularly followed up by the dermatologists in Askin. In the patient portal, you can ask questions, ask for advice and make wishes in relation to further treatment. For patients over 45 years of age, it is a requirement that blood samples be taken before starting treatment.
How much does the treatment cost?
The total price depends on the length of the treatment, selected treatment(s) and course. The follow-up program costs NOK. NOK 149 per month (excl. drug price) and is paid with automatic withdrawals in Vipps. Treatment of male hair loss has no reimbursement (blue prescription). The patient must therefore cover the entire cost of the medicine themselves. For men over 45, the blood test is paid for separately where it is taken (Fürst Medisinsk Laboratorium, local hospital or GP). The service has no lock-in period and can be freely terminated whenever desired. You can read the terms and conditions for the program here.
Medical questions
Why do some men lose their hair?
Male hair loss (androgenetic alopecia) is a normal physiological condition and not an expression of a disease. In androgenetic alopecia, increasing hair loss is seen with a typical distribution (wet, baldness, baldness). In these areas, the hair follicles of genetically predisposed men are extra sensitive to dihydrotestosterone (a male sex hormone). This hormone shrinks the hair follicles and shortens the hair growth phase. The result of this sensitivity is inactivated/regenerated hair follicles that do not produce new hair.
How is male pattern baldness treated?
There is a selection of treatment options consisting of scalp lubrication, tablets/capsules, or a combination of these.
How effective is the treatment?
All treatment should be initiated as early as possible for effect. In case of long-term/established baldness, the treatments will have limited or no effect. Treatment effect is further individual. Some experience reversal of hair loss, some a slowing down/stabilization, while others little or no difference. If the patient does not experience any effect over time (Should try treatment for 12-16 months), it may be appropriate to change or add another treatment, or end it.
What are common side effects of the treatment?
You get more information about side effects in the consultation in the program.
